2006 Meeting Minutes

April 18, 2006

 

Present: Britini' Parker, Renesha Harris, Justin Hegg, Josh Michels, Travis Sackett, Eric Justen, Kristopher Hall, Bonnie Field, and Steven Vlietstra.
 
Agenda: 11:00 a.m. Meeting, Laun 109
 
    1) Our guest speaker for this meeting is the mayor of Sheboygan, Mayor Juan Perez
 
    2) He gave us some background info on himself
 
    3) He told us how he felt about Sheridian Park becoming a police dept.
 
    4) Justin asked how he felt about the illegal immigrants coming over to the U.S.
 
    5) The meeting was cut short because the Mayor had another meeting

Present: Liz Block, Stephanie Knaak, Bonnie Field, Renesha Harris, Britini Parker, Justine Hegg, Josh Michels, Erik Justen, Travis Sackett, Andy Berkshire, Clayton Slotke, and Steve Vlietstra

Agenda & Activities

1.  We elected new board members for next year.  Our new executive board is

               Josh Michels- President

               Travis Sackett- Vice President

               Britini Parker- Secretary

               Renesha Harris- Treasurer

2      We talked about the ACJA conference.  Josh Michels talked about the crime scene investigation and the firearms competition.

3.  Our guest speaker for the meeting was Eric Edson, a police officer for Sheboygan.  He has been on the force for 13 years, is a member of the SWAT team, and works with the Canine Unit.  He believes it is important to be an advocate of community policing and always be accessible.  Lunch followed after the meeting in the cafeteria.

 

 

2005 Meeting Minutes

October 13, 2005

Present: Justin Hegg, Becky Kottke, Tina Schuh, Rebeca Schuettpelz, Josh Michels, Travis Sackett, Josh Humphrey, Brian Eder, Matt Brunnbauer, Bonnie Field, Kurt Arnoldussen, Liz Block, and Stephanie Knaak.

 Agenda: 11:00 a.m. in Laun 109

     1)      We quickly discussed the homecoming events ACJA did- Fat Cats and Frog Flinger.

2)      We discussed what happened with the Brat Fry and what the plans are for the remaining food.

3)      We reminded members of their chapter dues and the national dues.

4)      We opened discussion for the possibility of ordering new clothing apparel for those members that would wish to.

5)      We had two guest speakers for the meeting: Target Assets Protection and Wal-Mart Loss Prevention came and talked to us about retail theft and possibilities of doing internships with them.

1) Mary Piehl came and talked to us about this year’s “Muskie Mayhem.”

2) We discussed our ACJA Homecoming Events: Brat Fry, 50/50 Raffle, Frog Flinger, and Fat Cats.  We also asked for volunteers to help with these events.

3) Scott Brinkman was our guest speaker for the meeting who was our very own Lakeland graduate.  He talked about working his way through the Police Academy.  He is currently employed with the Grafton Police Department. 

4) Our next meeting is scheduled for October 13, 2005 and we should have two guest speakers who work with retail theft.

April 12, 2005

CJ Career Fair

 

Present:

Agenda: 11:00 a.m. Meeting in Laun 109

1)  The career day was a chance for us to talk to some prospective employers.  The Sheboygan Police, Boys and Girls Club of Sheboygan, State Portal, Kettle Moraine State Prison, Target, Secrete Service, Plymouth Police, And the Armed forces showed up to talk with us. 

2) Everyone was very open and had information for how to set up a career or an internship in their field of expertise.

3) Guest Speakers included the Department of Justice from Madison, Wisconsin.

Agenda: 11:00 a.m. Meeting in Laun 109

1)  Chief Kirk discussed the new possibilities of the Sheboygan Police Department location. The process has been in motion for many years.

2)  The Sheboygan Police department has gone away from the written testing and are starting to grade each application in the hiring process. The are using different parts of the application for the points system.  This gives the department a better understanding of the candidates professionalism and background.  This is also helpful so people don't get use to taking the same test over and over.

1) It is not required to be a member of the national charter to be a member of our local charter.

2) There is t-shirts for sale in Prof. Kooi office with our ACJA logo on it.

3) April 12th is career day in Brossard hall.

4) Officer Todd Priebe came and talk about the hiring process.

5) Officer Priebe and Professor Kooi, discussed illicit drugs and gave the speech they will be giving at the national conference in Chicago.

Agenda: 11:00 a.m. Meeting in Laun 109

1) We are still deciding if we should stay with the National Charter Of ACJA.

2) People need to decided if they want to sign up for the police academy through LTC.  The class will be about 13 weeks long.  The class cost is around $2600.

3) We are looking to set up a Brat fry at Wal-Mart on April 30th or March 20th.

4) Next meeting will be March 1st.
