Math Workshop

When it comes to taking a math course, whether it is basic algebra or calculus, some people are naturals while others struggle.   Some people can easily understand complex formulas while others sit there saying, "Huh?  Where do they come up with this stuff?"

Lakeland offers courses called Math Workshop which is designed to help those of us who struggle to understand the basic concepts and formulas in areas ranging from basic arithmetic to basic algebra, so we can then go on and conquer those harder, more terrifying math courses.

Objectives of Math Workshop are:

  • To provide minimal mathematical skills essential for a college graduate
  • To provide the skills requisite for all mathematical courses offered at Lakeland College, namely, the skills of:
  • Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, decimals, fractions, and mixed numbers
  • Performing basic operations with percentages, squares, signed numbers,
  • monomials, and polynomials
    • Constructing and interpreting graphs
    • Solving word problems
