Academic Resource Center Tutor 1

Basic Function and Responsibilities:
Provides basic skills and content tutoring in General Studies courses and
departmental courses at all levels through one-on-one sessions, group
tutoring, and supplemental instruction in the Academic Resource Center or
other locations as approved by the Director of the Academic Resource Center.
Characteristic Duties and
Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one tutoring as assigned.
-
Provide drop-in tutoring coverage in the
Hayssen Academic Resource Center.

Lead group tutoring sessions as assigned
at the request of students and faculty.

Assist with the preparation and
presentation of Skill-Building Workshops.
-
Participate in weekly staff development
training sessions in the ARC.
-
Maintain student files for all students
tutored recording session goals, action items, progress, and items
covered.

Perform related duties as assigned.
-
Work in a safe manner being aware of
personal safety and the safety of others.
-
Observe safety, health and sanitation
codes, regulations, or practices required by college or governmental
authority.
Supervision Received:
From the Director of the Hayssen Academic Resource Center and/or the Writing
Center Coordinator/Math and Science Tutoring Coordinator.
Supervision Exercised:
None
Minimum Qualifications:
-
A mastery of the content area being
tutored as demonstrated by a grade of “B” or higher in the course, or by
having earned a grade of a “B” or higher in a related, higher-level
course.

Sophomore standing with an earned
Lakeland College cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7.

Positive recommendations from three
individuals qualified to comment on the individual’s suitability as a
tutor.

Previous experience as a tutor within a
formal program.
