The Academic Resource Center located on the third floor of Old Main. The ARC is designed to help students like us become more comfortable, confident, and committed students.

What are the ARC's hours?

The ARC's hours are set by the general hours of Old Main. So, the ARC is open from about 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tutors are usually available starting as early as 8:00 a.m. and going until 7:00 p.m. depending upon the subject.

Do I need an appointment to work with a tutor?

No. The tutoring program is set up on a first-come, first-serve basis (unless there are special circumstances which require an appointment). What you do need, however, is enough time to have a tutor evaluate your paper or homework and time for him/her to make suggestions. Also, we are not a drop-off service--meaning, we do not allow you to drop off a paper then pick it up later with the corrections made. The tutoring program is set up so peers can work together in order to learn from one another's strengths and weaknesses.

Is the ARC only a place for tutoring?

No. Tutoring is one of the main reasons that the ARC is open; however, there are also 12 different computers students can work on, several different tables and work areas students can study at, and comfy couches for students who just need to relax or nap between classes. Students can--if they so desire-- feel free to bring lunch up to eat or a book up to read. The possibilities are endless.

How long are tutoring sessions?

There is no set amount of time for how long a tutoring session will last. There are a number of factors which will determine how long a tutor will need. Is your paper long or short? Has your paper already been revised by another tutor or your professor? Do you need help with all of your homework problems or just a few? Even though there is no set time, it's a good idea to come prepared to spend at least an hour. Again, we run on a first come first serve basis, so some waiting may be involved.
