Introduction

     Converting units is a necessary and invaluable skill to master, but it can seem a daunting task in the beginning. This tutorial will, in an organized, stepwise fashion, explain and explore unit conversion. First, there are some simple but very important steps to solving any problem that are often overlooked but will be discussed here. There are two main methods for completing all unit conversions—the proportion method and the factor-label method—including variations within each. The similarities and differences between the two methods will be clarified. We will begin the tutorial by introducing the problem solving skills and using them to explore the proportion method.
