Creating a Box and Whisker Plot

1.    Enter data sets into an Excel worksheet.(See below)

2.    Create Table(See below)

3.    Using formulas quartile(datarange,1) for q1, min(datarange),median(datarange), max(datarange), and quartile(datarange,3) for q3, fill in the appropriate values.(See below)    

4.    Select the entire rectangle and click on insert chart.

       

5.    At step 1, pick the line chart and click on the next button.

       

6.    At step 2, make sure that the data range is the correct rectangle and change series to Rows. Click the next button.

       

7.    At step 3 enter an appropriate title, notice the x-axis is already labeled from your spreadsheet data. Click the next button.

       

8.    At step 4, choose an appropriate location for the chart and click on finish.

       

9.    Placing your cursor on the max symbol on the chart and press your right mouse button and select Format Data Series.(See Below)

10.    Click on the options Tab and check the drop lines and up-down bars boxes.

       

11.    Adjust the gap width to suit your taste and click OK.
